Students from the St. Clair County TEC Law and Public Safety class recently spent the day at Pine River Nature Center putting their CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) skills to the test in a hands-on outdoor investigation experience. Working as a team, the teens explored wooded trails and open areas while learning the importance of observation, communication, and critical thinking during a search operation.
Throughout the day, students practiced a variety of search patterns commonly used by law enforcement and emergency responders, including grid and line searches. Hidden throughout the nature center were pieces of staged evidence that students had to carefully locate, document, photograph, and analyze just like real Crime Scene Investigators. The activity gave students a chance to apply classroom knowledge in a realistic and challenging environment.
The experience at Pine River Nature Center was not only educational but also a great opportunity for teamwork and problem-solving in a unique outdoor setting. Students gained valuable insight into investigative procedures while enjoying a day of hands-on learning and a chance to appreciate a local resource.
